One of the most common complaints we get from owners is that their dog is pulling on the lead making for a stressful and back breaking walk. I will be honest, loose lead walking is one of the most difficult things for your dog to get right consistently and it takes time, repetition, good knowledge AND good timing from the handler.

So we know that teaching our dogs not to pull on the lead is about much more than just repeatedly

pulling them back to heel position or popping a treat in their mouth when they walk nicely for five seconds. That doesn't work (if it did, you wouldn't be reading this). But how do we get them to walk calmly then? To get your dog to walk calmly to heel, they must first FEEL calm! Hence this new course 'Loose Lead and Calm'!!

This 6 week course for dogs over 14 months of age will take you on a journey to a place where your walks might look very different from anything you might imagine now. Come and find out what it's all about.

This course is suitable for people who are committed to a training journey, who have a positive attitude and an open mind.

Testimonials

I enjoyed this course so much.  No pressure dog training and the results were amazing.  The course provided lots of ideas and not one of them failed to produce results.

My dog was relaxed and happy all through the six week course, I would recommend joining the course to anyone.  Thank you Kate and Mandy you have given NaVi and I a huge step forward in working towards his Psychiatric Assistance Dog certification.  And so looking forward to the part2!

I cannot recommend the Loose Lead and Calm course enough. Kate, Mandy and Jill are very knowledgeable, approachable and above all tailor the class to suit each dog. The very first time I came to Matfield, Ron was overwhelmed and over aroused by all the sights, sounds and smells of the countryside and couldn't concentrate at all, we couldn't even tempt him with treats. By the end of the course Ron was able to walk calmly on his lead all around the field and even demonstrate a calm "paws up" whilst facing the woodlands and all the distractions it posed for Ron, this for me felt like a huge achievement. The course is broken down into small manageable chunks which are built on week by week, with homework emails sent to remind us to keep practising. I found this really helpful and it meant that just a few minutes practise each day helped us to achieve our goals by the end of the course. The high teacher to student ratio is brilliant and enabled us to all progress well at a pace that suited each dog/handler combo. This course has made a huge difference to our daily life, Ron will now walk happily, on the loose lead to the park, school or just on a leisurely walk around town, something which at times felt impossible. We are continuing to the next course to help us build on this and help us in more distracting settings. Thanks again Kate, Mandy and Jill for your help, patience and knowledge.

Honey Ripper and I have really been enjoying the Loose Lead & Calm course…Honey is a highly excitable 10 month old puppy who has been very challenging, but Kate, Mandy and Jill have been incredibly and endlessly supportive. Each week new exercises are introduced and previous ones reinforced. Lots of fun and it has really been impacting positively on both of us.

Brilliant course which has really helped my dog to walk calmly on a loose lead even with distractions all around and to settle quietly when we are not walking. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow for part 2
